Artist Statement
I create visual expressions in wood—sculptural forms that live in the space between intention and instinct. Each piece is a conversation between the shape I envision and the natural behavior of the material itself. The result is a form that may feel organic, yet one that could never exist in nature.
I’m inspired by geometry, theoretical constructs like the Möbius strip, and most of all, by the wood itself. For me, it's all about balance: the push and pull between the natural and the constructed, the quiet influence of time and the bold mark of the carving process. Wood is a living material. It had a life before it ever reached my hands, and even after I shape it, it continues to evolve—shrinking, drying, breathing. It's never truly still. There’s a tension and a harmony in that ongoing transformation—a balance between what the wood wants to do and what I ask it to do.
Sculpting feels like a pursuit—chasing something that doesn’t yet exist until I bring it into being. The final form is not entirely mine; it’s born from a partnership with the material. The most fulfilling moments are those of discovery—when the wood reveals something I didn’t anticipate. That discovery doesn’t end when the piece is finished. I carry those lessons forward, allowing the process to continually shape and inform my future work.
